Huts vs Tents on Kilimanjaro – Which Is More Comfortable?
Compare Marangu hut accommodation with camping routes such as Machame and Lemosho.

Marangu is the only main Kilimanjaro route that uses permanent mountain huts. Climbers sleep in shared dormitory-style buildings with mattresses, while dining and wash facilities remain basic. Machame, Lemosho, Rongai, Umbwe and the Northern Circuit use tents at designated camps. A professional crew carries and sets up the sleeping and dining tents. Huts provide more shelter from rain and wind, but tents can offer quieter sleeping arrangements and access to more scenic or gradual routes. Comfort depends on equipment quality, camp organisation, sleeping bag warmth and personal preference. Route acclimatisation should remain more important than the accommodation format.
